One of the largest Latino-themed cultural celebrations in Canada, TD Salsa in Toronto Festival spans over a three week period and features mucho music, dance, food and family fun. What started as a local two-day event ( TD Salsa on St. Clair Street Festival) in 2005, has grown into a nationally recognized celebration that has attracted hundreds of thousands of salsa lovers from near and far to the streets of mid-town Toronto. The jam-packed calendar of cultural events throughout the city includes a series of Latin dance and art exhibitions, salsa cruise nights, concerts, and dance parties, culminating with the Annual TD Salsa on St. Clair Street Festival.
Santa Rosa birth name: Gilberto Santa Rosa Cortés was born in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico.Here he received his primary and secondary education and became interested in music. He took part in his first concert while a teenager and in 1976, he made his recording debut as a backup singer with the Mario Ortiz Orchestra; soon afterwards he was recruited by La Grande Orchestra, where he became the lead singer. He remained with the orchestra for two years, during which time he met Elias Lopez who helped to mold and polish him as a singer
Celia Cruz was a Cuban-American singer, best known as one of the most popular salsa performers of all time, recording 23 gold albums.
Celia Cruz was born in Havana, Cuba on October 21, 1925. She first gained recognition in the 1950s, as a singer with the orchestra Sonora Matancera. Relocating to the United States after the ascent of Fidel Castro, Cruz recorded 23 gold records with Tito Puente, the Fania All-Stars and other collaborators. Cruz died in New Jersey in 2003, at the age of 77.
